Small pairs are some of the most difficult hands to play in poker. When you get dealt a pair of 2’s or 5’s, there is a good chance that you will get confused and not play the hand in the best way possible. Even the best poker players still stumble when they get these cards. But, if you break it down and analyze the hand, you can still make some money with these hands.
First, some preflop strategy. If there are a lot of bets preflop and it is expensive to see the flop, you should consider folding. Not many people have the discipline to fold a small pair pre flop, but then again, most players aren’t very profitable either.
If you do see a flop and you don’t hit a set, you have to consider folding. Even if you know your opponent doesn’t have a pair, there is a good chance that they will draw out on you or find another way to beat you. There are just too many hands that will beat a small pair that it is just not worth risking your stack.
The sooner you learn to effectively play small pairs, the sooner you will stop bleeding chips and losing big pots with hands you should never have been in. the more you play, the more you will understand that small pairs are the hardest hand to play in online poker and can be a real disaster in the hands of an amateur.
